What to Expect on Sundays
Trinity Mount Barker welcomes anyone to our Sunday gatherings. Whether you're visiting from another church, passing through town, invited along by a friend or curious about the Bible and the Christian faith, you're more than welcome to join us!
If you visit Trinity Mount Barker for a Sunday Service, here's what to expect!
Before the service:
We meet in the Littlehampton Primary School.
Follow the signs to a parking space in the carpark or in Baker, William or Darnley streets. Access for prams and wheelchairs is available via the William St carpark or from the front of the school (Baker St) via the ramp.
At the gymnasium (pictured at right) you'll be greeted by a member of the Welcome Team. They'll introduce themselves and offer to show you to a seat.
We suggest collecting a green Welcome Folder on your way in. This contains lots of information about our church which you may find helpful.
Coming to Church with Kids?
If you have children with you, one of the Welcome Team will explain the kids programs on offer.
Creche, for babies to 3 year olds and Minis, for children who are from 3 years up to the end of their first year in school, run in parallel with the main church gathering. One of the Welcome Team will introduce you to the leaders of these programs so you can sign your children in before the main gathering commences. Kids' Church is for children in year 1 to year 6. Kids Church members start in the church gathering with their parents and will be invited to leave for their program at the appropriate time. (You can go with them to get them settled and see where they'll be).
During the service:
There will be some singing (the words will be on the screen at the front so you can join in if you want to).
Someone will read a section of the Bible (you'll be able to follow the passage being read on the screen, or you can collect a Bible to use on the way into the gymnasium).
Someone, usually the Senior Pastor, Clayton Fopp, will speak for about 25 - 30 minutes, explaining the Bible passage that was read. Normally this part, the sermon, will be on a successive sections of a particular book of the Bible each week, although from time to time we take a look at topics like "Suffering" or "If I were God I'd ..." The current teaching series is "Foundations: simple steps for the Christian life" a series examining some of what it means to be a Christian.
One of the church members will pray on behalf of everyone, for current issues in the world, for the church and for people in the community.
A collection will be taken up, enabling people to financially support the work at Trinity Mount Barker and further afield.
Once a month, usually the first Sunday in a month, we share communion. This is where Christians eat bread and drink wine or grape juice to remember Jesus' death in our place, to forgive our rebellion against God. Bread and grape juice (in individual cups) will be passed out among the congregation. If you feel uncomfortable or you're not a Christian, you can simply pass the bread and juice on without taking any.
After the service:
Please collect your children from their programs!
Everyone is invited to stay for tea & coffee and an opportunity to meet people and discuss questions you may have from what was said and done.
One of the Welcome Team who you met on the way in might ask you for your name and contact details. This is so we can give you some more information about Trinity Mount Barker or answer any questions you might have. We take your privacy very seriously and don't pass on personal information to any other organisation.
